Meeting Planners Showcase

18 November 2015
My Experience

The Meeting Planners Showcase is an annual event put on by the Bryan/College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau. This event is meant to reach out to the community of Bryan/College Station for their meeting and event planner needs. I wanted to volunteer for this event in order to attend an expo like this. Although this event was over-volunteered, they still found a need for me at the check-in desk while the event was going on. I ended up staying longer than intended because it was a good way to network and get to know professionals who have been in the industry for a while. At the end of the event a lot of volunteers left so I offered to stay and help clean up. This was also a great opportunity to speak to the individuals running the booths, because they were no longer busy with attendees. More than anything, this event taught me to network but also to take the time to develop my skills by learning from professionals who have been in the field longer than I have. There will always be someone better than me and there will always be something to learn from each person I meet. I did not necessarily learn anything specific from this conference, but I was able to realize that there will always be rooms of individuals with their own lessons to teach and I ought to be at each of those opportunities.
