3 Day Startup

My 3 day weekend in the life of starting a business with Startup Aggieland

That's me!!

This was my pitch to get into the program...

This program could not have jumped into my attention at a better time. I am currently an Agriculture Communication and Journalism major with plans of being in Mays Business School starting in the spring of 2015. My goal is to graduate with a Marketing degree and go into the world of business, advertising, PR, or most hopefully entrepreneurship.

Currently I am starting my own clothing company with another student at Texas A&M. We have a website, two start-up shirts, and social media connections. I am always thinking of new ways to advertise and catch people’s eye. My passion for this company is currently consuming much of my thought and I am very anxious to see where it goes. I have a couple of other business ideas that I would love to venture into and I know that whatever it is I end up doing, it will thrive. I am a very devote and dedicated individual who will put everything on the table for something I believe in and I already believe in myself. I am ready and willing to see what directions the 3DS team can send me in. There are many different routes that I imagine this idea, and every idea that I have, going and I cannot wait for a new perspective. I hope my desire and diligence for simply being an entrepreneur is appropriately conveyed through these short paragraphs and that I am considered a likely candidate to be invested into through the 3DS program.

This is pitch that I will pitch over and over again until I get what I want because I believe in this idea and know how unlimited it’s potential is. Live Authentic is an apparel company that strives to promote creative and authentic lifestyles. We want to be eco-friendly as we encourage the idea of loving raw moments, raw nature, and raw living. This idea came to my partner and I under nature’s inspiration as we realized just how real and authentic we felt as we spent some of our summer in a tent in the middle of a campground. Live Authentic has recently been trademarked is now ready to grow! We have already designed and almost sold out two shirts and we are currently in the works of designing and ordering water bottles and canteens. We are interested in many different varieties of sales including organic coffee, free trade and organic cotton and clothing materials, eco-friendly packaging, green products, and maybe even handmade and locally made merchandise of many different selections.

We have also chose to donate 10% of our net profit to the Against Malaria Foundation. After much research we found out that this non-profit uses 100% of their money to provide mosquito nets to those in need, therefore making our donated 10% the most efficient.

We have already put so much of our time and definitely our money into this project and cannot wait to see where it goes! I also cannot wait to hear different perspectives on Live Authentic and am very open-minded to all directions.

My greatest takeaway...

While I have changed a lot since this pitch and this weekend, I will never forget what this experience has done for me. I networked with students and advisors who share similar interests and goals, I learned new aspects of business development, but I think most importantly, I learned that business is built by teams. Teams in business are made up of people from every profession and with different skill sets and a variety of backgrounds. It is extremely important to get to know your team as to better understand each individual. I think in life we tend to overlook personal matters, but that is who each individual is and how they were made. I think it is silly to underestimate the knowledge of a human for more than just their contribution to your work. Next time I work in a team, and each time I have since this weekend, I make it a point to get to know everyone before jumping into the nitty gritty.
