Reel Rock 10 Showing

14 April 2016
My Experience

If you scroll through my portfolio some more, you will be able to see that working at Texas A&M Outdoor Adventures has been a pivotal part of my college career. In the spring of 2016 my friend and fellow coworker, Evan Webb, had the idea to have a showing of the recently released Reel Rock 10. Reel Rock is a series of movies that follows the world's top climbers and adventurers and premiers their efforts from year to year. Reel Rock 10 was released in September of 2015, but the movie is sometimes hard to come by and expensive to rent. Evan, a dedicated climber and adventurer, wanted to show the climbing community at A&M this incredible film. I quickly hopped on board and asked how to help. Throughout the process of planning and advertising the event, I was able to help obtain food and snacks for the showing from Brisk Tea and Hungry Howies. These donations to Outdoor Adventures and our partner Craggies, a student climbing organization, allowed us to advertise and provide free food and drink to our attendees! I also helped Evan in the process of obtaining door prizes from Bear Mountain, Aggieland Cycling, and Lost Soles. With the goodies from these organizations combined with what Outdoor Adventures donated, we set up tables with tickets to allow each attendee the opportunity to win. Lastly, I helped with the implementation the day-of by helping Evan and other Outdoor Adventure volunteers check-in guests and setup the event. Our attendance was better than expected with about 50 students. All of the pizza was eaten and the movie played off without a hitch. This was an extremely fun event for me because the showing a movie like this is something that I shared a passion with Evan to do. I'm so thankful that he had this idea and allowed me to jump on board because planning a simple showing like this was a great way to bring the small climbing community of A&M together for a night of stunning adventure in College Station.
